Daraz Bangladesh Who We Are

 

Daraz Bangladesh Limited “Daraz” is the largest E-commerce marketplace in the country. Since its inception, Daraz has been facilitating customers with a unique digital shopping experience in an attempt to increase digital literacy in line with the Government's vision of a ‘Digital Bangladesh'. Our marketplace serves over 11 million shoppers with access to 16 million products across 100 plus categories. In addition, every day on average, around 1 million visitors visit Daraz's platform, and out of which we receive about 85,000 orders.

 

As part of our commitment to provide customers access to the best range of products and services, we work relent- lessly with over 150,000 sellers and partners, helping them grow their businesses through our platform and services.

 

 

In 2018, Daraz was acquired by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba group. Since then, we have received around USD150 million as FDI, which has helped us develop a global standard ecosystem and contributed to the country's economic development. We are engaged in promoting Education, Diversity, Community Engagement, and protect- ing the Environment through our various activities.

 

Daraz Bangladesh is continuously contributing to the youth skill development of the country and is more engaged in alleviating unemployment, with 150,000 sellers, of which 90% are SMEs.Our customers are our priority, and to celebrate the season of festivities, Daraz brings in exciting campaigns during Bangla New Year, Eid, Daraz’s Anniversary, the world’s largest campaign 11.11, and more.

 

 

During the pandemic, when a large number of sellers were compelled to close down their shops and businesses, we provided an opportunity for the sellers to continue their operations through the Daraz platform. We observed a 50% increase in seller onboarding during this time. To educate the sellers, we formed Daraz University, giving SMEs and entrepreneurs the knowledge, they need to operate their enterprises online successfully. It has provided training and education in e-commerce, marketing, and sales for over 85,000 people since 2018.

 

Daraz Bangladesh saw an astonishing 1,300 times surge in orders from just 13,000 in 2014 to more than 25 million in 2022. To ensure the most secure and fastest delivery, we formed Daraz Express (dEX) in 2018. Earlier with 22 hubs in 2018, we now have 144 hubs covering 64 districts of the country.

 

We contribute around BDT 5 crores to the government exchequer each month as tax, as the highest taxpayer in the e-commerce entity. We are the official sponsor of the Bangladesh National Cricket team in all formats. We have taken initiatives for a year-long “Daraz Durbar” project to acknowledge, inspire, and build economic empowerment for Bangladeshi women. To recognize and acknowledge innovative initiatives in the media industry, we have launched the “Bangladesh Media Innovation Awards”. It will uphold innovative initiatives such as digital transforma- tion, content marketing, or news distribution among the media publishers, advertisers, and broadcasters in the media industry, taking us forward to the next level through digital transformation.

We formed our social concern Daraz Cares. One of its core visions is to empower people through education, as education is recognized as the most fundamental aspect of life and serves many purposes. Under this, we have initiated Alok Homeschooling, Alokito Teachers Idea Challenge, etc.

 

We have supported nearly 8,00,000 people through our health, education, sanitation, awareness, and sponsorship programs such as Sneher Eid Upohar collaboration with Dhaka North City Corporation, Ektu Ushnota: Blanket & Old Clothes donation, Amar Dawaat, Covid-19 online donation, Covid-19 Commodity packs, Project Waste Management with BD Recycle, Donation Cards, Menstrual Hygiene Awareness program, Covid 19 Relief Donation, Make a Wish for 11.11, The Unwanted Twin, Amar Daraz Grand Life fashion Expo, Ignite Women Carnival, etc.

 

 

 

Daraz Bangladesh Limited is a proud member of the United Nations Global Compact. We have initiated B-SkiIlfuI Program and collaborated with Swisscontact Bangladesh to support MSMEs to connect to a wider customer base and enhance their sales capacity. Additionally, we have partnered with ActionAid Bangladesh helping women entrepreneurs to sell organic cows online with our platform.
